What constitutes best practice for safer care for foster carers?

 

Training Overview:

One of the most important responsibilities of a foster carer is to keep children and young people safe. At the same time, foster carers must keep themselves and their families safe from any harm that could arise through fostering, including the risk of complaints or allegations.

 

Developmental Objectives:

On successful completion of this module participants will:

  • Consider risks to foster children and carers own family and themselves.

  • Be reminded of the benefit of the Safer Care Plan.

  • Be aware of management of allegations and the LADO role.
    Share good practice with regards to every day risks.

  • Creating a secure base - the key to safer caring.

  • Communication and record keeping.

Skills:

  • Be risk sensible not risk averse.

  • Be more confident within their Safe Care Family Policy.

  • Know how to access support and guidance from relevant personnel within the department.
